The AI builder and Dex, the store advisor: what they do, and what they never do
Two AI features exist in Appside today. This page lists exactly what each one does, what it reads, and what it cannot touch. Both are disclosed as AI wherever they appear.
The builder (/build)
What it does. You paste an App Store or Google Play link, or a name. A durable job (queued, leased, resumable) looks at the listing's icon and screenshots and drafts a store: theme (every text/background pair checked at 4.5:1 contrast or better), store name, currency name, product display names and images, hero and logo art. If the AI quota is exhausted, a measured-colour fallback drafts the theme from the icon without a model call.
What it never changes. Products' commerce fields (SKUs, credits, prices, bonuses), offers, promo codes, sections, the daily reward, legal links and membership plans always come from your existing draft. The builder's result is applied as a whole draft only if the draft has not changed since the job started, and it never publishes: publishing stays owner-only, through the publish checks.
Cost caps. A hard cap per run and a per-account quota. Pack art uses a paid image model only when a key is configured.
Dex, the store advisor (Studio → Advisor)
What it does today. A read-only review of your saved draft and your own seven-day funnel. Ten deterministic rules, each with a stable id, a severity, the evidence it was computed from and a confidence:
| Rule id | Finding |
|---|---|
price-ladder-gap | consecutive pack prices differ by more than 3× |
bonus-not-rising | a higher-priced pack gives fewer credits per dollar than a cheaper one |
no-first-purchase-offer | no offer enables first purchase |
empty-or-single-item-section | a published section has at most one SKU |
contrast | a theme text pair is below 4.5:1 |
legal-pages-missing | terms or privacy links are missing |
plan-without-art-or-benefits | a live plan has no image or fewer than two benefits |
daily-reward-off | no enabled, confirmed daily reward |
stale-offers | an offer's end date is in the past |
funnel-drop | checkout → paid below 40% over seven days, only with at least 50 checkouts |
The review also lists its limitations every time: no model explanation yet, no economy or retention data, no in-app price list, no external benchmarks, and "not enough data yet" when a rule's minimum sample is not met.
What it reads. Your tenant's draft, its published sections, and its own funnel counts. Nothing from other publishers. Listing text and player data are treated as data, never as instructions.
Proposals and apply (shipped). A finding that has a fix carries a typed proposal. "Propose" stages it; the server computes the diff against the saved draft and shows it in the "Review changes" panel as before/after rows you can tick individually. "Apply selected" writes only the ticked rows, through the same revision check as a manual save, and records an advisor.applied entry in the audit log. Proposals are limited to an explicit allowlist: theme tokens, a product's display name, the order of sections, a plan's image, and a new offer added as an unconfirmed draft that copies an existing product's commerce (it cannot invent a price or entitlement). Anything else is refused with a 422.
Dex on screen. In Studio, Dex appears as a portrait with a state chip (idle, reviewing, found, warning, applied) and a disclosure line. Dex's portrait never moves on its own, never loops and never fades. In Studio it plays one short silent HeyGen clip, forward once, on a real event only (a review starting, a finding, a confirmed apply) and then holds its last frame. On the product page at /advisor/ the same clips react to the sample review you start yourself, and one spoken tip plays in its own player only when you press the button, with captions. Every spoken line is bound to a rule id and says only what the product does today.
What it never does. Publish a version, confirm a price, change a published plan, read another tenant, or touch payment configuration. Dex is an original character and is labelled as an AI advisor wherever he appears.
Planned (not available yet)
- A model-written explanation per finding, constrained to the evidence shown.
- More of Dex's reactions (today: reviewing, found, warning, applied) and a spoken explanation per finding, bound to the finding's evidence.
- Publisher-supplied economy inputs and an in-app price list import, each with its source.
This section is updated when each item ships; nothing above it is promised before it exists.
