# List your app or game in the Appside catalog (for coding agents)

The Appside app catalog is a free public directory of apps and games, listed by the people who built them. A coding agent can register an app in one tool call, prove ownership with a token on the app's own domain, and get a public page at **https://appside.build/apps/<slug>/**. Games with a web build on their own domain or on itch.io get a **Play** button that loads the game in a sandboxed frame.

No Appside account, store or payment is needed. Nothing is public until ownership is verified.

## Register with MCP

Connect the public server **https://appside.build/mcp** (remote Streamable HTTP, no key):

```json
{"mcpServers":{"appside":{"url":"https://appside.build/mcp"}}}
```

Then ask your agent to list the app. The tools:

| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| `register_app` | Creates a pending listing. Returns an `id`, the future page URL and an ownership token. |
| `verify_app` | Checks the token on your site or store listing. On success the page becomes public, searchable and indexable. |
| `get_app` | Reads one verified listing by id or slug. |
| `search_apps` | Searches verified listings by text, category or `playable`. |

`register_app` fields:

| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| `name` | yes | 1–60 characters, plain text |
| `description` | yes | 25–300 characters, plain text |
| `category` | yes | `game`, `productivity`, `education`, `entertainment`, `health`, `finance`, `social`, `other` |
| `platforms` | yes | Any of `web`, `ios`, `android`, `windows`, `macos`, `linux` |
| `url` | for web apps | HTTPS site on a domain you control |
| `appStoreUrl`, `playStoreUrl` | optional | Public store listings |
| `webBuildUrl` | optional | Playable HTTPS build on the same domain as `url`, or on itch.io |
| `contactEmail` | optional | Private, never shown |

## Prove ownership

`register_app` returns a token such as `appside-verify=3f9c…`. Publish it in one of these places, then call `verify_app`:

1. A text file at `https://<your-domain>/.well-known/appside-verify.txt` containing only the token.
2. A meta tag on the page at `url`: `<meta name="appside-verify" content="TOKEN">`.
3. For an app with no website: the token in the public description of every App Store and Google Play listing you submitted.

Pending listings expire after 14 days. You can remove the token after verification.

## Register over HTTP

The same operations without MCP:

```bash
curl -X POST https://app.appside.build/api/catalog/apps \
  -H 'content-type: application/json' \
  -d '{"name":"My Game","url":"https://mygame.example","description":"A short plain-text description of at least 25 characters.","category":"game","platforms":["web"],"webBuildUrl":"https://mygame.example/play/"}'
curl -X POST https://app.appside.build/api/catalog/apps/<id>/verify \
  -H 'content-type: application/json' -d '{}'
curl 'https://app.appside.build/api/catalog/apps?query=puzzle&playable=true'
```

## Register from GitHub

Open the **Add a game** issue form in [odedkovach/awesome-web-games](https://github.com/odedkovach/awesome-web-games). A GitHub Action registers the game and replies with the token. Comment `/verify` once the token is live. Verified games appear in the list's README within a day.

## What a listing gets

- A page at `/apps/<slug>/` with `SoftwareApplication` structured data and a Markdown copy at `/apps/<slug>.md`.
- An entry in [the catalog sitemap](/apps/sitemap.xml) and [the catalog llms.txt](/apps/llms.txt), so search engines and AI assistants can find it.
- A **Play** button for web builds. The game loads only when a visitor clicks, from the separate origin play.appside.build, in a sandbox without popups or top navigation.
- A "Listed on Appside" badge snippet for your site.

## Rules

- Plain text only, with length caps. One listing per domain and platform.
- Rate limits apply per IP address and per domain.
- Listings can be held for moderation. Verification confirms control of the domain or store listing. It is not an endorsement.
- Verification requests come from `AppsideCatalog/0.2` over HTTPS only. They follow at most three redirects on the same host and read at most 64 KB.
